Changes in Yahoo! Search Results

Update 2/2005:

Microsoft launched its own Internet search engine and a multimillion-dollar marketing campaign meant to draw the attention of consumers away from its top rivals, Yahoo and market leader Google. See InformationWeek e-zine.

Update 2/2004:

Yahoo! has continued to change the methods it uses to display search results. While Yahoo! previously pulled secondary results from other search engine providers such as OpenText, AltaVista, and Inktomi; in 2000 Yahoo! partnered with Google to provide the database for its "Web Page Matches". Since then, Yahoo! has added paid links from Overture, replaced its own directory listings with search results provided by Google, and in March 2003 finalized its acquisition of algorithmic search provider Inktomi.

As of February 2004, Yahoo! is no longer utilizing Google's technology. Yahoo! has announced the deployment of its own algorithmic search technology, the new Yahoo! Search Technology (YST), as a more comprehensive and relevant search experience for users. Watch for other changes in the near future.
