New Search Engine Developments2/2006 - Google SiteMaps provides a way for a web developer to publish a map of a site and submit it to Google. The purpose is to index pages for indexing. It's designed to let companies guide Google's crawlers and should help get pages indexed more quickly and thoroughly. Resources: 7/2005 - Yahoo! introduces a beta version of a social search engine, My Web 2.0.It can be used to search across individually configured trusted networks of people and communities. More information in PCWorld. 4/2005 - Yahoo! announced it is dropping the Overture name in the United States. The search-advertising services will be renamed Yahoo Search Marketing Solutions. More information in eWeek. 2/2005 - Microsoft launched its own Internet search engine and a multimillion-dollar marketing campaign meant to draw the attention of consumers away from its top rivals, Yahoo and market leader Google.
